We had a couple extra days off for Spring Festival on May 1, just like our May Day. Do kids still do the may basket thing? A chinese friend of ours took us on a tour to the Concessions area where people from other countries settled and set up businesses in the early 1900's. The buildings are being renovated and opened up for tours. In the past these were dwellings for Chinese people who moved out for the renovations. There are tours available with a paid guide.
We are not sure what country lived in specific houses (because it is not listed on the signs in English) but the architecture is different than the typical Chinese.
