Today is Chinese New Year Eve. It is the biggest holiday in China. Today will be filled with the sound of fireworks. Tonight the this city of 13 million will be filled with smoke from all the fireworks and the sky will light up in many places from all the fireworks.
This afternoon at 3PM we will go over to Julia's house and begin the celebration with her family and parents and grandparents once again this year. We are more nervous this year. There were gifts to buy and now entertainment to participate in. We are expected to sing a song this evening. We have some CDs we can take with us with songs on them that we sang with our classes at the end of the term. Oddly enough I don't feel nervous about that part. It is a small group and it won't last long and no one will be judging us. I more nervous about all the food and what to eat and what not to eat and how long to eat. Last year no one ate while we were eating. So should I eat quickly so others can eat or should I savor the food and let them wait? I don't know. And if I eat too quickly is that a sign of disrespect to their food preparation? I don't know. I may never know.
We should have some pictures of tonight. I hope I get time to put them on before we leave. Monday and Tuesday will primarily be packing days. Wednesday morning we leave early.
I hope you all have a great Chinese New Year.
