This is my Happy Naw Ruz greeting to all who read our blog. Happy Spring is implied in Happy Naw Ruz. We have received a couple of mass emails wishing everyone on their list a Happy New Year - Naw Ruz, this is my way of responding. We fast, sometimes we endure the Fast more than actively participate in it, but we fast and then today we don't have to any more for another year. It is always great. I'm always glad to to able to drink coffee after sunrise. I'm always glad to be able to eat lunch most days after the fast, but it is always true that during the Fast I know that the reason I'm not eating is that I believe that is the will of God for us to turn our thoughts away from our material existence for a few days every year and focus on the real nature of our existence and strive to put that part of us in the forefront of our lives the rest of the year. We are spiritual beings more that we are physical beings.
I am beginning to realize that the best way to develop my spiritual being and be aware of it more often is through service. Most of us are not taught this growing up and I did not teach my children this when they were growing up. It has taken me a long time to learn this. And I am still learning. As 'Abdu'l-Baha says "... Let your heart burn with loving kindness for all who may cross your path." That is a tall order and one which I am a long way from actually putting into consistent practice..
