The hotel was very clean but old and everything looked well-used. The carpet was threadbare
, the bathroom tiny, the way the rooms were arraged seemed strange and dated. The breakfast was very Chinese but good.

Hello to all of our friends in Missouri, Iowa, Arizona and any other state you may reside in or be visiting. I took a walk around campus today. Linda had a study group and I was a little restless after mine this morning. I walked to a "new" movie store that we will be frequenting now that the movie store by our campus has been gutted and something new is being put in there. I also went to our new favorite bakery. It's our new favorite because it is so close and we had a loaf of bread from there that was really good. Things become our new favorite easily, although this bread is probably the best whole wheat bread we have found in Tianjin. It actually rivals the bread we found at a vegetarian restaurant in Dali on vacation. Dali caters to foreign tourists in many ways so it was not surprising to find good whole wheat bread there but it was as good as any I have had in my life. It was pleasant walking around today. The weather was surprisingly warm. I was glad I was walking instead of riding my bike for once.
To continue the travelogue of our vacation: When we left Hong Kong we flew to Kunming. We only stayed there one night but the hotel we stayed at was so outrageous I have to put pictures up of it. From Kunming we took a bus to Dali. It cost almost as much to take a bus to Dali as it cost to stay in our hotel in Kunming. The trip was 5 hours with one stop along the way.
