Finally teaching is starting to make sense. We have completed our 4th week of teaching with 14 to go. It took me a year to get a handle of what I really was supposed to DO up in front of the class. I winged it for quite awhile and it wasn't too hard at first until I realized I really didn't know what I was doing. It was harder for awhile after that until finally, I have some idea. I guess it is true that in order to learn how to do something you have to do it. It is so hard, though! But it really pays off.
This fast period has been very tough but also rewarding. The spiritual insights were more this year, I am so grateful. I just hope I can remember them and apply them to my life. I found or was able to recognize some of the gifts, gems, hidden in the words of our holy writings.
Life is busier this semester. We are much busier studying with Chinese people in our home. We get less exercise and are exploring the city less but are learning more about the Chinese people and ourselves.
Our schedules are different also. James and I have more time alone in the apartment to prepare for class. This is also good for both of us. It is hard to concentrate and remember you are "working" when there is someone right there to talk to and to be distracted by. We have no excuses now!
Chinese lessons are getting to be more fun. I didn't think that would happen, either. I can actually understand some things they say to me on the street. It feels so good. Responding back to them is not as easy but that will come with continued work (maybe).
I hope those of you who have experienced the fast have recieved the spiritual nourishment that is promised in this holy time. Happy Nawruz! And for the others: Happy Spring!
